Divergent is one of my favorite movies because it has a fantastic story and lots of action. The film is about a girl Tris (Shailene Woodley). She lives in futuristic Chicago surrounded by a wall that was built after a great war. In this city the people are divided into factions to keep the peace. Factions are a group of people who do the same thing. The factions are called Abnegation, Candor, Amity, Erudite, and Dauntless. In Abnegation they are selfless. They believe that other people come first. In Candor they are honest. They believe that you should always tell the truth. In Amity they are peaceful. They believe everything should be tranquil and calm. In Erudite they are intelligent. They believe everyone should think and make the right choice. Lastly the Dauntless are brave. They believe in no fear.

DivergentTris is old enough to choose a faction. She can stay in the faction she was born into or she can choose another one. If she chooses a different faction she will have to leave her parents forever. Before Tris chooses though, she has to take a test that tells her what faction she would be best in. When she takes her test she is divergent. Meaning she doesn’t belong in any single faction. The next day is Choosing Day where she can choose whatever faction she wants. After she has chosen dauntless, Tris leaves her family to train with her faction. There are two types of training, physical and mental. The problem is that while she is doing the mental training the leaders could find out that she is divergent. She could be killed if they find out. The leaders will kill her because they fear divergents. The leaders, especially the Erudite leaders, want to get rid of divergents so they can have “peace.” This causes a fight between Abnegation and Erudite. Erudite thinks they should be in charge of the government and Abnegation should have no say. This causes a war that Tris and her friends are dragged into.

Some of the characters that I liked are Tris, Four, and Christina. I like Tris because she is kind and determined. Tris was dedicated and had to work hard to stay in her chosen faction. She is a fighter who stands up for what she believes in. I also liked the character Four (Theo James) because he helps Tris a lot when a leader of the faction is trying to hurt her. Lastly, I liked the character of Christina (Zoe Kravitz) because she is kind to Tris and becomes her friend. The story is really about Tris trying to find out who she is and the people who help her along the way. I thought that the acting in Divergent was very good because the cast worked well together.

SPOILER ALERT: One of my favorite parts is when Tris finds out she is divergent. I like this part because it’s interesting and surprising and was acted out very well. The person that gives Tris the test sends her out the back door and tells her to keep this a secret from everyone else. Another one of my favorite parts is the end. Divergent ends on a cliff hanger and I like that. Basically the end is about Four and Tris going beyond the factions and living their lives the way they want to. A sad part is when in the war between abnegation and erudite people close to Tris get killed. It’s a sad part because it’s always hard to lose someone close to you.

Divergent is rated PG-13 because it has violence and blood; also because it talks about killing and fighting. So I think it was a good idea to rate it PG-13. I would not let little kids see this movie because it may scare them. I think you should go see Divergent because it is interesting and tells a good story. It made me jump at some parts because people or things came out of nowhere. I think that everyone that worked on the movie did a good job.
