This movie can be great for kids, but if you are old enough to watch Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return you can watch the original The Wizard of Oz, which is much better. Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a story about Dorothy (voiced by Lea Michele) who has to come back to the Emerald City to save it and her friends. Since Dorothy left the Land of Oz, the kingdom has fallen into the hands of The Jester (voiced by Martin Short). The Jester is the evil witch’s brother and he has taken over for his sister. The Jester has made the Emerald City a dark and scary place to be. The scarecrow (voiced by Dan Aykroyd), the Tin Man (voiced by Kelsey Grammer), and the Lion (voiced by James Belushi) need Dorothy’s help to save the Emerald City. They bring Dorothy back on a rainbow to help save Oz.

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's ReturnThe Jester keeps ruining Dorothy’s plans to get back to the Emerald City. For example Dorothy starts out walking on the yellow brick road with Wiser (voiced by Oliver Platt). Wiser is a rather large bird who cannot fly. They travel through a candy forest and they see signs along the way. The signs said to eat the candy so they did. However, The Jester magically changed the signs to say that. Really the signs said NOT to eat the candy. Then Dorothy and Wiser get arrested by the police for eating candy when they were not supposed to. This is where it gets repetitive. The Jester keeps trying to stop Dorothy from getting to the Emerald City. This happens for three quarters of the movie. While Dorothy is trying to get to the Emerald City, she meets a bunch of people that want to help her defeat The Jester. The movie is really about Dorothy trying to save Oz once again.

My favorite character is Toto because he is cute and will give you a laugh. Plus he is a really well-behaved dog. What real-world dog would follow her owner around this whole movie? Another character I like is Dorothy because she is kind and wants to help everyone. She also sticks up for what she believes in. I also liked Marshal Mellow (voiced by Hugh Dancy). He looks and probably tastes yummy. I wanted to eat him.

The 3D effects were not good at all! It only looked like 3D in the action parts and there are very few of them. So sadly, I was not impressed by that either. It looked just like a regular picture. If you see this movie, skip the 3D.

When I saw the trailer for Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return I thought it was going to be an action-filled animated film. But actually it’s a boring repetitive movie that is not good at all! So don’t be tricked by the trailer. One scene that I didn’t get at all is when The Jester turned the people of Oz into puppets and had control over them. I don’t understand this scene because he didn’t use the puppets for anything at all. Yet he still had them. Another scene that I don’t get is when The Jester lost the ball on the top of his wand that gave it magic. He gets shot with gumballs at the same time he is about to pick up the ball from the top of his wand. He then has to search though the gumballs to find it. As he finds it he gets shot again then just throws the magic ball away. Yet he still finds the magic ball in the pile of gum balls. Huh? Other than a few parts this movie was uninteresting because it was predictable.

I think you should save your money and watch The Wizard of Oz and skip Legends of Oz. If you do see Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, let me know which movie you think is better.
