This late summer film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is inspired by the 1964-68 television series. Director Guy Ritchie’s take on the international spy team is surprisingly great! This is a quick-witted, not without some well-timed sarcasm, blast back into the 1960s world of the secret agent.

Henry Cavill is brilliant As CIA agent Napoleon Solo. Solo is a former thief that is paying his debt to the U.S. government as a spy begrudgingly joining forces with Russia’s KGB operative Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer). The mission is to find and illuminate a criminal organization bent on building and detonating a nuclear weapon.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.First thing on the agenda is to find and recruit Gaby Teller (Alicia Vikander), the daughter of the suspected nuclear weapon creator. Vikander is fabulous as the sexy spitfire completing the international team U.N.C.L.E., (aka United Network Command for Law and Enforcement).

So, the hunt ensues and we immediately fall in love with all three of these main characters. Solo, called Cowboy by his KGB sidekick, is a debonair playboy with just the right mix of comic confidence. Illya is the perfect hotheaded Russian that does all he can to maintain his tough-guy composure, determined to guard his heart from Gaby. Gaby however is incredibly funny in her attempts to seduce Illya, many times coming very close to breaking him. All three play well off each other and I for one give them a big bravo for their performances.

Honorable mention goes to Elizabeth Debicki who played Victoria the gorgeous villain in the story. I loved her and loved her hair even more. Hugh Grant was also in this film, he played a British advisor although you did not see much of him and his performance was not one of his best.

I can’t speak highly enough about Ritchie’s ability to take us back into the Sixties with the magnificent clothes, hair styles, jewelry, sets, and cars! The Man From U.N.C.L.E. gives you just the right amount of sexuality and action without being over-the-top. You will even experience majestic Italy – absolutely beautiful cinematography! And keep a look out for some extremely creative camera angles.
