What We Liked

It was good to see Michael Keaton again – he was perfect for his role

What We Didn't Like

Sentimental moments were so corny, to the point where many in the audience laughed – and not because it was funny

The new film Need for Speed is strictly for those with a need for speed. If you have a need for good story lines, or perhaps a need for believable drama, you will not find it in this film. However, if you are a fan of the Fast & Furious series fan that lives for fast, incredible race cars, and completely adore Aaron Paul (Jessie from Breaking Bad), then you may really dig this film.

Need for SpeedTobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) is a street car racer that is trying to save his auto shop. With the banks wanting to put his business into foreclosure, Tobey is forced to take an incredible money making job renovating a car by his longtime nemesis Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). This ends up going bad with a loss that ultimately lands Marshall in prison. After serving his term he has a score to settle and stops at nothing to get vengeance and seek justice.

Setting out on a cross country journey with Juia Maddon (Imogen Poots) as his co-pilot, we experience incredible street car racing that is sure to please fans of wild, unrealistic street shenanigans. Having his team follow him such as airplane pilot Benny (Scott Mescudi) whom from the sky plots the course that will get Marshall where he needs to go the fastest and safest. Also part of the entourage is Finn (Rami Malek) riding in the super truck with Joe Peck (Ramon Rodriguez). Together they are both a bit on the Laurel and Hardy side without the greatness of Oliver and Stan. So they are headed to California from the small town of Kisco, New York in hopes of being asked to enter the big street race put on by Monarch (Michael Keaton) a wealthy street car enthusiast that puts on the race every year with an incredible purse for the winner. The exact location and route of the race is not known until the very last minute.

Need for SpeedWhat you will see in Need for Speed are some of the coolest cars imaginable; of course, you’ll also get to see many of them completely destroyed. Who ends up winning the race? Who do you think? This film is so predictable and, in all seriousness, you have to view it with that in mind. Make no mistake this film is primarily for racing fans. Do not go into it with any expectations other than that of seeing cool cars race and you will not be disappointed.
