Box-Office Weekend: Bad Guys Finish First

Box Office Weekend

A new film stood atop all others at the end of the box-office weekend as The Bad Guys debuted this week and finished $8.8 million ahead of last week’s top film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The animated The Bad Guys took in $24 million during its first weekend of release. Holding onto second-place was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to a second-place finish with $15.2 million over the last three days. This gives the film a three-week total of $145.8 million. Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore dropped from the top spot to third place with $14 million over the weekend, giving the film a two-week tally of $67.1 million. The latest film from director Robert Eggers, The Northman debuted in fourth place with $12 million to show for its first weekend in release. The weekend’s third debut, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent brought in $7.2 million and finished in fifth place.

Last weekend’s fourth-place finisher, Everything Everywhere All at Once dropped two spots to finish in sixth with $5.4 over the weekend. This gives the film a five-week total of $26.9 million. Falling four spots to finish in sixth place was the Sandra Bullock starring The Lost City which added another $4.4 million to its coffers over the weekend to rais the film’s five-week total to $85.4 million. Dropping three places was the Mark Wahlberg vehicle Father Stu, which managed to earn $3.3 million over the weekend and finish in eighth place. The film now claims a two-week total of $13.9 million. Falling from sixth to ninth over the weekend was the non-Marvel Marvel movie Morbius which added $2.3 million this weekend to bring its four-week total to $69.2 million. Finally, last weekend’s seventh-place film, Ambulance mustered $1.8 million to land in tenth place. The film now sports a disappointing three-week total of $19.2 million.

Three films were again dispatched from the box-office weekend top ten over the last three days. The Batman was finally pushed from the top ten after finishing in eighth place last week. The film still managed to bring in $1.5 million though, despite being made available via HBOMax. The film now lays claim to an eight-week total of $357.7 million. After debuting in the ninth spot last weekend, K.G.F: Chapter 2 departs the top ten with $2.9 million to show for its time.
