Although it debuted with over $32 million and held the top spot for the weekend box office, the thirty-five years in the making sequel Blade Runner 2049, fell south of the film’s $45-$55 million expectations. Despite mostly positive reviews, the film may have a long climb to ensure that it’s a domestic hit.
The Tom Cruise-led American Made brought in considerably less in it’s second-week of release, $8.1 million this week compared to $22.3 million last week. But, that’s still decent business. Elsewhere, The LEGO Ninjago Movie added $7 million to bring its three-week total to $44.1 million. The film that everyone seems to love, Victoria and Abdul took in $4.1 million in its third week of release. While the Flatliners remake brought in a paltry $3.8 million in its second week as it dances precipitously close to falling out of the top ten this coming week.
Finally, everyone’s favorite movie about tennis continues to be Battle of the Sexes, which added $2.4 million to bring its three-week domestic total to $7.7 million.
