The reimagined version of Candyman hit theaters this weekend and easily took the top spot of the box-office weekend as it brought in $22.37 million for Universal Pictures.
Just behind Don’t Breathe 2, with $2.17 million was Respect, in the sixth spot, in its third week of release. Dropping from sixth to seventh in only its fourth week of release was the Warner Bros. super-hero offering The Suicide Squad. The film took in $2.04 million over the weekend to lift its grand total to a disappointing $52.78 million. The film deserves far better treatment than it has received. Sliding a spot in its second week of release was The Protege, which finished with $1.65 million over the weekend to lift its total take to $5.72 million. The Night House finished in ninth place with $1.22 million in its second week, and a grand total of $5.18 million.
Finally, creeping back into the top ten was Black Widow, with $855,000 over the weekend. This gives the latest Marvel film a total of $181.53 million over an eight-week period.
