Box-Office Weekend: Dinosaurs Still on Top

Despite some competition from newcomer Lightyear, the latest film in the “Jurassic” series, Jurassic World Dominion held onto the top spot of the box-office weekend by a mere $7.7 million.

In its second weekend of release, Jurassic World Dominion added $58.7 million to lift its overall total to $249.8 million. Meanwhile, the Disney/Pixar film Lightyear debuted in second place with $51.0 million to show for its troubles over the weekend. Dropping a spot to finish in third place in its fourth weekend of release, was Top Gun: Maverick. The Tom Cruise hit now sports a four-week total of $466.2 million. Similarly falling to fourth place was the Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which took in $4.2 million over the weekend to list its seven-week tally to $405.1 million. Again, the previous weekend’s fourth-place film finished in fifth place the following weekend as The Bob’s Burgers Movie made $1.1 million over the weekend to bring its four-week total to $29.8 million.

Dropping a spot to finish in sixth-place over the weekend was The Bad Guys which made $980,000 during the last three days to raise its nine-week total to $94.2 million. Holding its ground and sticking around in seventh place was Everything Everywhere All at Once which added $960,000 over the weekend to lift its thirteen-week total to $64.9 million. Falling to the eighth after finishing in sixth place last weekend, was the sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era with $830,000. The film now lays claim to a five-week tally of $42.2 million. Staying put in ninth place over the weekend with $228,000 was Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The animated film now claims an eleven-week total of $190.5 million. Finally, the comedy Brian and Charles debuted in the final spot of the weekend’s top ten with $198,000 to show for its first weekend in release.

Two films were pushed from the box-office top ten over the weekend. After climbing back into the top ten last week, the Firestarter remake has again fallend off the list after amassing $9.5 million over its six weeks in release. Meanwhile, the comedy Ante Sundharaniki leaves the top ten after debuting in the final spot last weekend.
