A new film sits atop the box-office weekend as The Garfield Movie managed to claim the number one slot by the margin of $3.2 million.
Holding its ground in sixth place, The Strangers: Chapter 1 brought in $3.6 million over the weekend for Lionsgate Films, raising its three-week total to $28.4 million. The first of three debuts this weekend, Crunchyroll’s Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle, landed in seventh place with $3.5 million over the last three days. Meanwhile, In a Violent Nature debuted in eighth place where it took in $2.1 million for IFC Films. Bleecker Street Media’s Ezra debuted in ninth place with $1.2 million over the weekend. Finally, last weekend’s seventh-place finisher, Sight dropped three spots to land in tenth this weekend where it brought in $1.1 million for Angel Studios, to bring its two-week total to $5.9 million.
The bottom trio of films from last weekend were the displacement victims this week as all three were forced from the top ten by new arrivals. With six weeks in release in the rearview mirror, Challengers leaves the top ten after bringing in $47.1 million for United Artists Releasing. After only three weeks in release, the Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black, takes a bow and departs the top ten after bringing in $6.0 million for Focus Features.
