Box Office Weekend: ‘Glass’ Repeats On Top

Box Office Weekend

Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass finished on top of the weekend box office for the second week in a row this past weekend. Bringing in an estimated $19 million, the film pushed its two-week tally to just under $74 million and managed to remain the king of the box-office weekend for at least one more week.

Finishing in second place, as it did last week, was the Kevin Hart/Bryan Cranston starring comedy/drama The Upside, which added $12.2 million over the weekend to bring its three-week total to $63.1 million. Elsewhere, Aquaman climbed one spot up to third place from fourth, bringing in $7.4 million in its sixth week of release. This raises the film’s domestic total to approximately $313.6 million while also allowing it to top $1.09 billion worldwide.

Meanwhile, the family-friendly feature The Kid Who Would Be King debuted in fourth place over the weekend with $7.3 million, allowing it to finish just behind the Aquaman juggernaut. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse held onto the fifth spot bringing in $6.2 million to give it a seven-week total of $169 million.

On the heels of multiple Oscar nominations, Universal’s Green Book re-entered the box-office weekend top ten this week in the sixth spot adding $5.4 million to bring its eleven-week domestic total to $49 million. This dropped A Dog’s Way Home, which took in $5.2 million in its third week, down to seventh place.

This weekend’s other debut, the dramatic thriller Serenity, earned $4.8 million for Aviron Pictures, landing it in the eighth spot of the weekend box office. In it’s fourth week of release, Escape Room brought in $4.3 million as it fell from the seventh spot to the eighth in this top ten. Finally, Dragon Ball Super: Broly plummeted from its third place finish last week to barely hanging onto a spot in the top ten this weekend, earning $3.6 just million.

Three films that take leave of the top ten this weekend include: Mary Poppins Returns (which has made $165 million during its domestic run), Bumblebee ($121.3 million), and On the Basis of Sex ($21.1 million).
