The box-office weekend was again topped by a new film as The Invitation debuted in the number one spot, besting the second-place film by mere $1.4 million.
Falling one spot to finish in sixth place was DC League of Super-Pets with $4.2 million. This gives the latest film from the DC Universe a five-week total of $74.1 million. Meanwhile, director George Miller’s fantasy/romance Three Thousand years of Longing debuted in seventh place with $2.9 million to show for its first weekend of work. Standing, ahem, tall in eighth place were the yellow heroes of Minions: The Rise of Gru which held onto their spot with $2.74 million earned over the weekend, bringing the film’s nine-week total to $354.8 million. The God of Thunder, however, fell three spots to finish in eighth place as Thor: Love and Thunder landed just behind the Minions with $2.7 million, raising its eight-week total to $336.6 million. Finally, last weekend’s ninth-place film, Where the Crawdads Sing finished firmly in the tenth spot this weekend with $2.3 million. This brings the film’s seven-week total to $81.9 million.
Another two films were thrust from the top ten again this weekend as Nope took leave of the list after finishing in the seventh spot last weekend. The Jordan Peele film leaves with a six-week total of $117.6 million.
