Joaquin Phoenix and Joker finished atop the box-office weekend once again. The film took in $55 million over the weekend, to give it two consecutive weeks at the top of the weekend box office and a cumulative domestic take of $192.7 million.
Meanwhile, dropping from second place last weekend to fourth this weekend was the animated Abominable, which added $6.2 million, giving the family-oriented film a three-week total of $48.0 million. Similarly, Downton Abbey dropped from third place to fifth with a $4.9 million showing over the weekend. This gives the film adaptation of the popular PBS series a four-week tally of $82.7 million.
The comedy Hustlers only fell one spot, from fifth to sixth, making $3.9 million this weekend. This gives the Jennifer Lopez film a five-week domestic total of $98.0 million. Renée Zellweger and the Judy Garland biopic, aptly titled Judy, remained steady in the seventh spot of the weekend top ten bringing in $3.3 million to give the film a three-week total of $15.0 million. It Chapter Two dropped from the fifth spot last weekend to eighth this week with a $3.2 million take over the weekend. This gives the Stephen King inspired horror sequel a six-week total of #207.1 million, all but ensuring an It Chapter Three is at the very least in discussions.
The comedy Jexi, the weekend’s third debut offering, finished in ninth place with $3.1 million. Finally, the science fiction film starring Brad Pitt, Ad Astra, claimed the tenth spot on this weekend’s countdown with $1.9 million. This gives the film a four-week total of $47.0 million.
Leaving the top ten this weekend were stalwarts, Rambo: Last Blood and Good Boys. The drama War also took leave of the top ten.
Next weekend will see the release of Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil as well as Zombieland 2: Double Tap from Sony. Also, pardon the pun, on tap are smaller releases such as Jojo Rabbit and The Lighthouse. All of which look as though they should continue to affect the weekend box-office.
