As predicted last week, right here in the Box-Office Weekend column, the top ten didn’t fluctuate much at all during this past weekend, save for the week’s lone new release and a few films shuffling positions with each other. First, returning to the top spot is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with $11 million. The sequel has now brought in a staggering $352.6 million during its seven-week run. Meanwhile, last week’s first-place finisher, Maze Runner: The Death Cure managed $10.2 million to increase its two-week haul to $39.8 million.
Steven Spielberg’s The Post finished with $5.2 million and continues to do solid business after racking up a slew of Oscar nominations. The film has now made $67.2 million domestically since its release seven weeks ago. As did The Post, 12 Strong fell a spot this week to seventh with $4.7 million, just edging out Den of Thieves which made approximately $4.67 million over the weekend and finished in the eighth spot.
The Shape of Water, from director Guillermo del Toro, also dropped a spot down to ninth earning $4.3 million, bringing its ten-week total to $44.6 million. Finally, Paddington 2 brought in an additional $3.1 million to raise its four-week box-office take to $36.3 million. Next week sees a new film (and supposedly the last one) in the “Fifty Shades” franchise—Fifty Shades Freed—as well as the family-friendly (supposedly) Peter Rabbit, and director Clint Eastwood’s latest film The 15:17 to Paris, starring the actual people who lived through the events of the film and not actors.
