The latest comic-book film, Justice League – this one from Warner Bros. and DC Comics – debuted in the top spot this week earning $96 million, failing to break the $100 million plateau in its opening weekend as did the previous DC Comics entry, Wonder Woman (2016) with $103.2 million its opening weekend. Justice League did much better international, bringing in an additional estimated $185.5 million, making it one of the top twenty-five worldwide openings of all time.
The animated film The Star brought in $10 million proving that audiences are always hungry for decent family entertainment. The raunchy pre-holiday comedy A Bad Moms Christmas earned $6.9 million in its third week of release, proving that audiences sometimes exhibit taste. In eighth-place was A24’s impressive Lady Bird, which took in $2.5 million in its third week of release. The pre-expansion Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri finished in ninth place with $1.1 million. In the final spot, is the presumably ready to bow out of the top ten horror film Jigsaw, which finished in tenth with $1.1 million and a disappointing four-week tally of $36.5 million.
Next week sees the release of the latest from Disney/Pixar, Coco, which will look to further disrupt the current box office pecking order.
