For the third week in a row, The Super Mario Bros. Movie held the top spot of the box-office weekend by a significant margin. This weekend, it bested the second-place film by $34.7 million.
Air dropped a spot to finish in sixth-place this weekend with $4.9 million, giving it a three-week total of $41.3 million. Last weekend’s second-place film, The Pope’s ExorcistM plummeted down to a seventh-place finish this weekend where it added $3.3 million to bring its two-week total to $14.9 million. Meanwhile, Renfield similarly dropped from fourth place to eighth this weekend with $3.1 million, giving it a two-week tally of $13.6 million. The third top-ten debut of the weekend, Beau Is Afraid brought in $2.8 million and landed in ninth place. This left Suzume in tenth place, where it debuted in the top ten with $1.7 million.
For the second consecutive weekend, four films were thrust from the top ten as the titles in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth spots last weekend were all ousted. After only two weeks in release, Mafia Mama leaves with an overall total of $3.3 million. Over the course of seven weeks, Scream VI has managed to amass $107.7 million, but was pushed out of the top ten this weekend. Also in its second weekend of release, Nefarious departs the top ten with a cumulative total of $2.4 million. Finally, in its third week of release, His Only Son takes leave of the top ten with a grand total of $12.1 million.
