Box-Office Weekend: Mike Proves Magic Again

Box Office Weekend

For the second consecutive weekend, there is a new film atop the box-office weekend as Magic Mike’s Last Dance debuted in the top spot, besting the second-place film by $1.3 million.

The latest (and perhaps final?) film in the “Magic Mike” saga, Magic Mike’s Last Dance made $8.2 million in its first weekend of release, which was enough to claim first place in the weekend’s top ten. Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water crept up a spot to finish in second place with $6.9 million over the weekend, bringing its nine-week total to $646.9 million. Oddly enough, third place belonged to another James Cameron film, Titanic, which brought in $6.4 million over the weekend during its 25th anniversary release. Falling from second place last weekend to a fourth-place finish this week was 80 for Brady which brought in $6.0 million over the weekend to bring its two-week total to $25.0 million. Last weekend’s top film, M. Night Shayamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, was forced all that way down to a fifth-place finish this weekend with $5.5 million. The film now sports a two-week tally of $23.4 million.

Dropping two spots to finish in sixth place was Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which added $5.5 million over the weekend to raise its eight-week total to $158.5 million. This pushed Tom Hanks and A Man Called Otto down to seventh place with $2.62 million over the weekend. This lifts the film’s seven-week total to $57.4 million. The only film holding steady from last weekend was Missing, which remained locked in eighth-place with $2.60 million. This brings the film’s four-week total to $26.6 million. Falling a couple spots from seventh to ninth was M3GAN which added $2.4 million over the weekend to lift the film’s six-week total to $90.9 million. Finally, in its fifth week of release, Plane makes a return to the top ten in the final spot with $1.2 million. This gives the film a five-week cumulative total of $30.8 million.

Three titles were pushed from the top ten this box-office weekend as BTS: Yet to Come in Cinemas feel from the list after claiming fifth place last weekend. Last weekend’s ninth- and tenth-place films (Homecoming and Pathaan respectively) were also pushed from the top ten over the weekend.
