Dwayne Johnson returned to theaters with Rampage and snagged the top spot over the box-office weekend with a $34.5 million opening. That just beat last week’s champ, A Quiet Place, by roughly $2 million as it brought in an estimated $32.6 million. This gives director John Krasinski’s horror film an impressive two-week total of $99.6 million.
While Marvel’s Black Panther may have also fallen a few spots this weekend (from fourth to sixth), it still brought in $5.3 million, bringing its record-setting domestic total to $673.8 million. As we wrote last week, Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs opened nationwide this week, and the additional locations allowed it to jump from the tenth to the seventh spot as it took in $5.0 million, giving it a four-week tally of $18.5 million.
Falling from fifth to eighth place was the Dennis Quaid led family drama I Can Only Imagine, which finished with $3.8 million, giving it a five-week cumulative effort of $75.0 million. Tyler Perry’s Acrimony continued to tumble down the top ten. This week, it dropped from sixth to ninth place with $3.7 million as it looks headed out of the top ten next week.
Finally, the Ted Kennedy inspired drama, Chappaquiddick brought in another $3.0 million, which was good enough to raise its two-week total to $11.0 million and give it sole possession of tenth place on our list. A couple films took their leave of the top ten this weekend after decent stays for the both. Sherlock Gnomes departs the list after amassing a three-week total of $37 million. Similarly, Pacific Rim: Uprising departs after a disappointing three-week run that saw it bring in just $57.5 million. Next week sees the arrival of Amy Schumer’s latest film I Feel Pretty and the sequel to Super Troopers, the aptly titled Super Troopers 2.
