Box Office Weekend

Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings remained perched atop the box-office weekend. This weekend, the film added $13.3 million to, yet again, best its nearest competition by $5.8 million.

For a fourth straight week, the film finished in first place. This week, the film now has a four-week total of $196.5 million. Debuting in second place, was the dramatic musical, Dear Evan Hansen which rode somewhat mediocre reviews to the tune of $7.5 million. The Ryan Reynolds-led Free Guy dropped a spot to third, with $4.1 million, giving the film a grand total of $114.1 million thus far. Again, holding tightly onto the fourth spot was the horror film Candyman which added $2.5 million to give it a five-week tally of $56.8 million. Dropping from third to fifth place was Clint Eastwood’s return to the Western genre, Cry Macho which brought in $2.1 million, giving it $8.3 million during its first two weeks of release.

Climbing up a spot from last week to finish in the sixth spot was Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which added $1.9 over the weekend to give it a nine-week total of $114.9 million. Falling from fifth to seventh was the horror film Malignant, which took in $1.5 million to give it a somewhat disappointing three-week total of $12.3 million. In its second week, the crime thriller, Copshop, dropped two spots to finish in eighth place with $1.3 million over the weekend, giving it a total to date of $4.5 million. Also dropping a spot this week was PAW Patrol: The Movie, which, despite bringing in $1.1 million, now only boasts a six-week tally of $38.8 million.

Finally, the Indian romance Love Story, the weekend’s other new arrival, finished in tenth place with $971,000 in its first three days of release. Dropping out of the top ten of the weekend box office were The Eyes of Tammy Faye, which amassed a total of $1.5 million during its time in the spotlight and the horror film Don’t Breathe 2, which brought in a disappointing $31.6 million during its run.
