Marvel returned to the top of the box-office weekend for the holiday as the latest offering from the studio, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuted at number one over the weekend, bringing in $71.4 million.
Dropping one spot to sixth place was the horror film Don’t Breathe 2, which took in $2.2 million in its fourth week of release, giving it a total of $28 million. The Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, also dropped a spot, finishing in seventh place with $1.3 million, giving it a four-week total of $21.9 million. Also falling a spot, from seventh to eighth was the Warner Bros. offering The Suicide Squad, which took in $905,000 in its fifth week of release, giving the film a to-date total of $54.4 million. Climbing up a spot, after rejoining the top ten last weekend, was the Marvel film Black Widow, which added $748,00 to lift its nine-week tally to $182.5 million.
Falling to the final place in this week’s top ten was The Night House with $552,000, giving the film a three-week grand total of $6.3 million. Dropping from the top ten was The Protege, which departs with a three-week total of $6.9 million.
