Box-Office Weekend: Spider-Man Can’t Be Beat

Box Office Weekend

Another weekend at the box-office equals another weekend on top of the box-office for Spider-Man: No Way Home as the film held the top spot of the box-office weekend for the fourth week in a row. This weekend, the film bested the second-place finisher by just over $21 million. As its fortunes continue to rise, No Way Home currently claims a four-week total of $668.8 million.

For its part, Spider-Man: No Way Home took in another $33.0 million over the weekend, easily besting Sing 2, which retained a second-place finish with $11 million. The animated sequel now owns a three-week total of $109 million. Debuting in third place this weekend, was the action/adventure thriller The 355 which, despite less-than-positive reviews, managed to eke out $4.8 million during its opening weekend. This dropped last week’s third-place finisher, The King’s Man to fourth as it added $3.3 million over the weekend to give it a three-week total of $25.1 million. Similarly dropping a spot due to the debut of The 355 was the Kurt Warner biopic, American Underdog which finished in fifth place over the weekend with $2.4 million to lift its three-week total to $18.7 million.

Falling from the top five for the first time in three weeks, was The Matrix Resurrections which brought in $1.9 million over the weekend and now sports a three-week total of $34.3 million. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story similarly fell a spot to finish in seventh place with $1.4 million. The film now lays claim to a five-week total of $32.2 million. After clawing its way back into the top ten last weekend, Ghostbusters: Afterlife fell only one space to finish in eighth over the weekend with $1.1 million. The film now boasts an eight-week tally of $125.1 million. The final film to drop a spot over this past weekend was Licorice Pizza, which took in $1.0 million to secure an eighth-place finish and a seven-week total of $8.2 million. Finally, creeping back into the top ten to finish in the final spot this weekend, was House of Gucci which mustered up $632,348. The film now has a grand total of $50.1 million to show for its seven weeks in release.

With only one debut in the box-office weekend, and one film clawing its way back into the top ten, two films were jettisoned from this weekend’s list. In its third week of release, A Journal for Jordan managed to secure $605,000 and raise its three-week total to $5.9 million. Meanwhile, Disney’s Encanto brought it slightly under that with $553,000 and departs the top ten after amassing a seven-week tally of $92.4 million.
