As movie theaters across the country creep towards opening en masse, The Croods: A New Age climbed into the top spot of the box-office weekend during a predictably uneventful President’s Day at the box office.
Finishing just behind Wonder Woman 1984, was The Marksman, which fell from a third place finish last week to fifth with $1.10 million over the weekend. Newcomer Land finished in sixth place bringing in $940,000 in its first weekend of release. Monster Hunter continued a decent run despite falling one spot and finishing in sixth with $650,000 over the weekend, giving the film a nine-week total of $12.69 million. The Tom Hanks vehicle News of the World dropped to the eighth spot after finishing in sixth last week as it added $385,000 to its eight-week total of $11.35 million. Dropping two spots to ninth was the excellent Promising Young Woman, which added $182,000 in its eighth week of release to give in a cumulative total of $4.92 million. Finally, finishing in the final spot of this week’s box-office weekend, was the comedy The War with Grandpa, which added $180,287 to its account to give it a nineteen-week total of $20.02 million.
Next weekend will continue to see no new major releases, but notable films in limited release include Nomadland starring Frances McDormand and I Care A Lot with Rosamund Pike. Until the theaters open in earnest across the country, please stay safe and keep checking back here for any changes in the box-office weekend.
