After being edged out of first place last weekend, Mufasa: The Lion King wrestled the top spot of the box-office weekend from Sonic the Hedgehog by a $2.6 million margin. Other than that, all of the players from last weekend managed to remain on this weekend’s list as well.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw Mufasa: The Lion King take control of the box-office weekend top ten as it led the weekend with $23.8 million in its third weekend of release. This gives the film an overall total of $168.6 million. This was enough to push Sonic the Hedgehog 3 from the top spot to second place with $21.2 million, bringing the Paramount Pictures’ product a three-week total of $187.5 million. Meanwhile, Nosferatu held steady in third place, adding $13.2 million over its second weekend in release as Focus Features saw the film’s total increase to $69.4 million. The second Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures film on this weekend’s list, Moana 2 climbed a spot to take over fourth place with $12.4 million over the last three days. This brings the film’s six-week total to $450.8 million. Universal Pictures then had to settle with Wicked dropping from fourth to fifth with $10.2 million taken in this weekend. This brings the film’s seven-week total to $450.7 million.
Holding its ground and remaining in sixth place was Searchlight Pictures’ A Complete Unknown with $8.1 million in its second weekend of release. This brings the film’s overall total to $41.7 million. Meanwhile, A24’s Babygirl held steady in seventh place, adding $4.5 million over the weekend to bring the film’s three-week tally to $16.1 million for A24. Also holding onto its spot from last weekend, Gladiator II took in $2.7 million this weekend to lift its seven-week total to $168.9 million for Paramount Pictures. Likewise, Angel Studios saw Homestead remain in ninth place where it added $2.1 million over the weekend, bringing its three-week total to $17.5 million. Finally, The Fire Inside held onto tenth place with $1.2 million during its second weekend in release, bringing its total to $7.1 million.
For the first time in recent memory, no films were pushed from the weekend box-office top ten as all of the titles featured last weekend made the cut again this weekend, only rearranging their positions.
