Box-Office Weekend: The Nun Stands Ground

In its second week of release, the horror film sequel The Nun II held onto the top spot of the box-office weekend by the narrow margin of $0.2 million.

Although it brought in around $17.9 million less than last weekend, The Nun II still finished in first place of the top ten with $14.7 million. This gives the film an overall total of $56.5 million for Warner Bros. With a debut in second place earning $14.5 million, A Haunting in Venice came close to claiming the top spot for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, but was just a bit short. Meanwhile, after landing in second place last weekend, The Equalizer 3 was pushed to third place where it added $7.2 million to give the Columbia Pictures release a three-week total of $73.7 million. Also dropping a spot was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 which landed in fourth place with $4.7 million in its second week of release. This raises the overall total of the Focus Features release to $18.6 million. Holding steady in fifth place was Barbie which added $4.0 million over the weekend to give the Warner Bros. product a nine-week total of $626.1 million.

The action film Jawan from Yash Raj Films USA Inc. dropped two spots to land in sixth place this weekend where it added $2.5 million to bring its two-week total to $12.2 million. This pushed Blue Beetle to seventh place, where it added $2.47 million to lift the film’s four-week tally to $67.3 million for Warner Bros. Also falling a spot this weekend, was Gran Turismo, which made $2.35 million this weekend to bring its four-week total to $39.4 million for Sony Pictures Entertainment as well as an eighth-place finish. Universal Pictures enjoyed a ninth-place finish for Oppenheimer where it added $2.1 million to raise the film’s nine-week total to $318.6 million. Finally, after claiming the penultimate spot last weekend, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem finished in the final spot of the weekend box-office top ten with $2.0 million. This gives the Paramount Pictures product a seven-week total of $114.1 million.

Only one film was pushed out the weekend box-office top ten over the last three days as Bottoms failed to crack the top ten and departs after amassing $9.9 million for Orion Pictures over the last four weeks.
