In its third week of release, the Aquaman juggernaut was felled by upstart The Upside, which bested it by approximately $2.3 million over the weekend. The Upside debuted on top of the weekend box office with $19.6 million. Meanwhile, Aquaman added another $17.3 million to lift its four-week tally to $287.9 million. Despite losing the top spot on the domestic box office, Aquaman did manage to exceed $1 billion in global returns so there probably isn’t too much crying over at the headquarters of the DC Extended Universe.
In its fourth week of release, Mary Poppins Returns took in $7.2 million but fell from the third spot to sixth. But, things still look shiny for the singing nanny as she’s just passed the $150 million mark. Bumblebee also dropped this week, finishing in the seventh spot with $6.8 million over the weekend and a four-week total of $108.5 million.
In its third week of release, the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic, On the Basis of Sex starring Felicity jones, cracked the top ten by bringing in $6.2 million. Clint Eastwood and The Mule held onto a spot in the top ten with $5.5 million, which was good enough for the ninth spot this week. Finally, Vice fell from seventh to tenth with $3.3 million during its third weekend while raising its total to $35.9 million.
Finally, Jennifer Lopez and Second Act took leave of the top ten this week, as did Holmes and Watson and Ralph Breaks the Internet. Next week should be another shakeup as M. Night Shyamalan’s latest, Glass, debuts.
