There was a bit of rearranging over the box-office weekend as last weekend’s first- and second-place films swapped places this week. Wonka finished on top, besting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom by $4.5 million.
The second debut of the weekend, The Boys in the Boat landed in sixth place where it garnered $8.3 million over the last three days and an overall debut of $21.9 million. This pushed A24’s The Iron Claw from sixth- to seventh-place this weekend where in brought in $5.0 million for the studio, giving it a two-week tally of $16.4 million. The third debut in this weekend’s top ten, Ferrari took eighth place with $4.1 million over the weekend, giving the film an overall total of $10.9 million for Neon. Dropping a spot to finish in ninth-place this weekend was The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes which made $2.9 million for Lionsgate Films in its seventh week of release, lifting its overall total to $159.9 million. Finally, after landing in seventh place last weekend, The Boy and the Heron dropped to the tenth spot this weekend where it brought it $2.5 million for GKIDS as well as a total of $36.0 million over the last four weeks.
This weekend saw only three films thrust from the top weekend box office. After one week in release, Salaar couldn’t hold onto its fifth-place finish last weekend and feel out of the top ten with a one-week total of $6.3 million. After five weeks, last weekend’s ninth-place film, Godzilla Minus One, drops from the top ten with an overall total of $45.7 million. Finally, after four weeks and a tenth-place finish last weekend, the Searchlight Pictures product, Poor Things falls from the top ten after amassing a total of $10.3 million.
