Jake Gyllenhaal and Eminem Surprise Detroit Audience at Screening of Southpaw

On Sunday, July 19, 2015, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eminem made a surprise appearance at an advance screening of Southpaw in Eminem’s hometown of Detroit. Gyllenhaal stars as Billy “The Great” Hope and Eminem is the Executive Producer of the film, his record label, Interscope Records, Southpawis producing the soundtrack in which features two original Eminem songs, “Phenominal” and “Kings Never Die.”

The pair talked enthusiastically about the film and their involvement and then quickly ducked out before the screening began. Check out the video of the appearance above as well as a couple photos below. Don’t forget to check Southpaw out when it’s released on July 24th.

An independent filmmaker, co-writer and director of over a dozen short films, the Editor in Chief of CinemaNerdz.com has spent much of the last three decades as a writer and editor specializing in biographical and critical reference sources in literature and the cinema, beginning in February 1991 reviewing films for his college newspaper. He was a member of the Detroit Film Critics Society, as well as the group's webmaster and one-time President for over a decade until the group ceased to exist.
