A Kid Film Critic Reviews Free Birds

Free Birds begins with a panicked turkey named Reggie (Owen Wilson) trying to get the rest of the flock to run away from the farmers who are choosing a turkey to eat on Thanksgiving. Reggie was not chosen to be Thanksgiving dinner. There is another turkey named Jake (Woody Harrelson). Jake knows where a time machine is so that he can go back in time to the first Thanksgiving. Jake is determined to get turkeys off the Thanksgiving menu for good. He forces Reggie to go on a time travel mission with him to try to save all turkeys.

I really didn’t like this movie. I thought that there were too many parts they did not need. Getting to the time machine took too long. In some parts of this movie they were trying to be funny and in other parts I don’t know what they were trying to do. The movie was very boring. I did not laugh at all. I did hear the audience laugh once or twice, but it wasn’t funny to me. This movie is rated PG. I think that is a good rating for Free Birds because young kids should not see it. Free Birds has too much butt and private part humor for little kids. Also, the time travel plot can be very confusing.

The creators of Free Birds were trying too hard to make the story funny. They made the characters act over the top and weird. The 3D effects were not good. Without the glasses the movie was fuzzy looking, but with the glasses on it just looked like a regular movie. There were several parts that would have benefited from 3D but the creators didn’t pull it off.

Reggie (voiced by Owen Wilson) is an over dramatic bird which makes the character act stupid. Reggie overdoes the romantic parts and overall shows too much emotion. This character was not funny. Jake (voiced by Woody Harrelson) is very competitive which makes him flex his butt. He likes to flex his butt too much (any amount of butt flexing is too much). Jake is not funny. The way both of these characters acted made me not like them.

I did find the baby turkeys that appear twice in the movie to be very cute. They were the closest to a favorite character for me. I don’t recommend spending your money on Free Birds.
