Movie Review: Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Maze Runner: The Death Cure is a very good movie. It is the conclusion of the Maze Runner trilogy. In this movie, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his friends are trying to stop WCKD’s tortuous experiments. Along the way there are many surprises that make it more difficult for them to achieve their goal. We also see Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) working at WCKD, trying to find a cure.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure is based off the best-selling novel of the same name. I have not read the novel so I cannot say if it stayed true to the story. However, I enjoyed the movie and did not feel like I was missing anything. I do feel that the ending was a little confusing, but overall it was satisfying. At the end of the movie there are not many loose ends. However, it feels like Thomas may be planning something more. This left me wondering if the movie series would continue even though the books have not.

There are a lot of parts in Maze Runner: The Death Cure that surprised me. Many things happen to characters that you don’t expect. There are also a lot of characters that you think are good, but end up being evil or vice versa. This made the movie more enjoyable because outcomes were not predictable.

I really liked all the characters in Maze Runner: The Death Cure. All of them showed good development. Even when you disagreed with a character’s choice, you could still understand why they did what they did. A good example of this is the character of Teresa. In the previous movie she betrayed Thomas and his friends. She also revealed that she works for WCKD and her reasons for doing so. These reasons are made even more clear in this film.

I really liked Maze Runner: The Death Cure, but it was not an exceptional film. In fact, it was a pretty typical action movie. With that being said, if you liked the first two Maze Runner movies, you will like this one. Maze Runner: The Death Cure has romance, action, despair, and everything in between. For people who like action movies this is definitely worth watching.
