Review: London Has Fallen Blu-ray

There were two White House invasion thrillers released in 2013: Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down. Out of the two, White House Down seemed like the stronger bet at the box office with leads like Channing Tatum London Has Fallen Blu-rayand Jamie Foxx and a director, Roland Emerich, who is known for blockbusters. Alas, Olympus Has Fallen came out three months earlier, earned more money, was arguably the better film, and got a sequel in London Has Fallen.

I am a fan of Olympus Has Fallen and was intrigued by the series shifting over to London, so much so that I checked this movie out in theaters (something that not a lot of people did). Despite the harshly negative reviews, I must say I enjoy London Has Fallen quite a bit. Is it the next Die Hard or hard-R action classic? Absolutely not; the film has a thin plot, one-dimensional characters, and generic villains.

What makes London Has Fallen so much fun, however, is the action. The film takes a while to set everything up in the first act, but by the time the second act hits, the action does not stop. The action is always intriguing and entertaining, something that not all action flicks can say nowadays.

Overall, London Has Fallen is a perfect “turn off your brain and enjoy” action flick. Some people may not be looking for that, and that is totally understandable, but for me, London Has Fallen satisfied my action movie needs.

BONUS FEATURES

There are two featurettes included on the Blu-ray of London Has Fallen, with neither of them lasting more than three minutes. They are both just quick looks at how the filmmakers and actors brought the action to the big screen and are not groundbreaking.
