The War with Grandpa Takes the Box-Office Weekend

Audiences returned to movie theaters this weekend and the winner was the new family comedy from 101 Studios and Brookdale Studios, The War with Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro and Oakes Fegley. The film debuted at the top of the box office over the weekend with $3.6 million. Check out a new clip from the film above.

In a distant second-place, well a full $1.5 million behind The War with Grandpa at least, was Tenet from Warner Bros., which gave up the top spot for the first time in five weeks. Despite conceding the top spot, the latest mind-bending cinematic trip from director Christopher Nolan added $2.1 million to lift its total to $48.3 million.

The re-release of Hocus Pocus from the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures managed to secure third place adding $1.2 million to five it a two-week tally of $3.1 million. Falling one spot, was 20th Century Studios’ The New Mutants, which took in $705,822 over the weekend to raise its seven-week total to $22 million.

Last week’s fourth-place film, Solsitce Studios’ Unhinged dropped to fifth place with $682,819 over the weekend, giving the film a nine-week total of $19.4 million. The rest of the weekend’s box-office performances can be found below.
