While not winning the hearts of critics, The Other Woman managed to charm enough cash at the box office – an estimated $24.7 million – to finally push Captain America: The Winter Soldier (estimated $16 million) into second place. Not that the latest Marvel film has much to fear, considering its hefty domestic haul of $224.8 million alone is more than enough to make it a success. It is the current highest grosser at the box office, making light of the estimated $13.8 million for Heaven is for Real (though that has been a powerful success on its own terms, easily besting its $12 million budget) and the estimated $13.7 million for Rio 2 (which has yet to break the $100 million mark here, but has done massive overseas business).
In the final three, Bears fared best, climbing the ranks while still slipping in income with an estimated $3.6 million…despite high critical marks, it remains the lowest earning Disneynature film, and may only have a slim chance of gaining traction on the other documentaries in the series. Divergent and A Haunted House 2 are both successes in money terms, with Divergent’s estimated $3.6 million adding to a $139.5 million domestic haul, but A Haunted House 2, while solidly profitable (its estimated $3.3 million for its second week almost enough to cover its budget alone), came nowhere near the success of the latest parody films, including its $40 million-earning predecessor, and may signal an end to the franchise or a new direction for the genre.
