Box Office Weekend: Eight Figure Box Office for Magnificent Seven

The Magnificent Seven opened the final weekend of September with an estimated $35 million in domestic box office earnings…and while its $90 million costs may be tough to top (even with foreign box office adding to the totals), it was still enough to hold back the debut of Storks, which brought in an estimated $21.8 million against $70 million in costs. Both films pushed the previous champ Sully down into third place, where an estimated $13.8 million adds to a successful worldwide total of $126.9 million, with more weeks to come.

While Bridget Jones’s Baby has failed to make much of an impression with American audiences (earning an estimated $4.5 million), the comedy has been a smash success overseas, with the $35 million production earning $83.6 million in worldwide revenue. Snowden, in the meantime, must rely entirely on domestic gross so far, and an estimated $4.1 million has only brought in $15.1 million against a $40 million budget so far. But no dip in revenue can hurt Blair Witch at this point…the $5 million production made an estimated $4 million on the weekend and has been a profitable venture with $15.1 million in domestic gross. In comparison, though, Don’t Breathe is a monster hit by any standard, with an estimated $3.8 million bringing $81.1 million in on a $9.9 million budget.

Suicide Squad may be in eighth with an estimated $3.1 million, but remains the top dog of the top ten with $318.1 million in domestic revenue (and $731.7 million worldwide). When the Bough Breaks, ironically, tumbled its way quickly down the top ten, but with an estimated $2.5 million, the film has managed to earn $26.6 million on a $10 million budget and all but ensure a profitable run. The same cannot be said for Kubo and the Two Strings. With an estimated $1.1 million total, the $60 million film has only managed to capture $46 million at the domestic box office, and $58.6 million in total worldwide gross.
