FAQ

CONTENT
Should I let my kid browse your site – is it safe?
CinemaNerdz is written by adults and is intended for adult consumption. We assume we’re on the same level. We’re also operation under the assumption that our audience is a smart and mature one as well. You won’t anything too racy within these pages, but we do construct our stories with the belief that the audience has a higher level of maturity than a six-year-old, even though we do from time to time run pieces by six or nine-year-olds. (Do you want to see every Mr. Popper’s Penguins that comes out? Me neither!) Hopefully the bulk of our stuff makes you think. Whether the site is appropriate for your particular child is completely up to you.

Wow, there are some errors in this piece, do you care?
Of course we do! But, this is an independently owned website and not some homerun corporate blog that makes seven figures in revenue every year. Unfortunately, it also means we don’t have the bandwidth to proofread and fact check every little morsel that we print here. While we do our best, even the best editor is bound to allow one or two typos to fall through the crack from time to time. It happens to everyone and it sure happens to us every so often. If you do see something major, drop us a comment on that page and let us know. Just don’t be too aggressive. Some of us get a little defensive in those situations.

That opinion is crazy…are you marketing for the studios or shilling for the ad companies?
CinemaNerdz is all about integrity. We will never give you anything but our honest opinions of things on this site. Whether those are good opinions is completely subjective of course, but I can tell you that advertisers have no say in what we publish whatsoever. In fact, most of the ads you see on the site are brought in through a third party so we really have no idea what specific ads will appear on the site from day to day.

That being said, we do occasionally have direct contact with publicists and other studio representatives in the day-to-day doing of our jobs. While some sites and publication have been known to kowtow to these groups since they control access to artists, we’ll never do that. Unfortunately, that may cost us access to some celebrities and for that we apologize to you dear reader. But, we can sleep at night with the knowledge that we haven’t given your anything but our unadulterated opinion of everything and anything that comes across our collective path. But, you should know, when we do land an interview we’ll be as polite as can be to whomever our subject is. That’s just basic human decency folks!

Where do you get all of those wonderful stories?
CinemaNerdz.com is really just a big collection of our opinions. And as such, we don’t rely too heavily on “breaking” news to provide our content. We’re more about giving you our opinion of the relevant movie news of the day. That is not to say that we won’t share scoop with you if one happens across our editorial desk. We’ll just make damn sure it’s from a reliable source. We don’t want to be passing along bogus information to you now do we?

Why so many swears?
We love to write. Been doing it most of our live. Since we’re adults and we’re presumably writing for adults (remember when we talked about this earlier?), we figure why not take full advantage of all of the words the dictionary has to offer. So, occasionally some writers may use just a little bit of profanity. But, some won’t use it at all ever. In the end, it all works itself out and we’ve got a nice balance of the good, the bad, and the ugly on the site.

I’m a brilliant writer and would like to share that gift with you and your readers?

REVIEWS
How do you decide who reviews what?
Reviews are assigned strictly on desire and availability, without regard to the background or outside interests of the writer covering the film in question. It’s all very democratic.

What do your review scores mean?
We work on a scale ranging from zero to five, with zero being the absolute lowest score and five the highest. But, no rating scale can ever truly reflect ones opinion of any given film so we ask that you read every review from beginning to end since they’re what’s important here, not some arbitrary number.

How do I get my independent film, web series, or new project reviewed?
Although we’d like to accept unsolicited works for review, we don’t have the bandwidth at this time, so anything you send to us will more than likely go unwatched. We do apologize.

What is the purpose of your reviews?
Our reviewers are just trying to tell you what they think of any given film. We here at CinemaNerdz.com feel that a well-written film review doesn’t simply arm you with opinions and send you off to the theater, rather it prompts discussion and hopefully gives you an idea as to whether you might want to see a particular movie and more importantly, spend actual money to see it. Oh, and hopefully they’re a good read as well.

COMMENTS
What is the purpose of the comments section?
The comments section at the bottom of every page on this site allows readers to share their thoughts on the specific topic being discussed right above it. Comments of all types are allowed, as long as they remain on topic. All types of discussions should be explored here (we’re not all going to agree or disagree all the time. We only ask that you’re passionate with your comment and that you (forgive the cliché) keep it clean. Our comments are not intended as a release for any bottled-up frustrations you may have against another reader. Nor do we intend for you to excessively critique the way we do business here in these sections. If you disagree with what we’ve said, we only ask that you do so in a polite and respectful manner (we’ll listen much more intently that way). We would not have a site were it not for devoted readers and commentators like yourself, so the last thing we want to do is discourage you from posting your opinions – so please, keep those well-thought out comments rolling right on in. For more on our Comments Policy please click here.

Why wasn’t my comment posted?
Because of problems we’ve had in the past dealing with comment spammers, our current comment system automatically deactivates any comment containing a link. This comment remains deactivated until one of our moderators has time to check the system. Feel free to post links, but be warned that any comment containing a link may be in our queue for awhile before it get promoted to the site.

Why was my comment deleted?
While the comments sections are not heavily moderated (after all, we want to encourage discussion on all of our posts), we still want you to keep it on topic. Any posts that fail to do so will be removed. In some cases where comments from the same author are being deleted repeatedly, that user may be banned from the site forever. All decisions of this nature are final and not up for debate.

ADVERTISEMENTS
Why do you have ads up all over the website?
This is an independently owned and operated website, which means you’ll find a collection of writers here that you’ll always get honest opinions from. Unfortunately, that freedom from the creative restrictions of the corporate hierarchy means that we have to pay for everything to maintain the site ourselves. So, we have to display advertisements on this site. We always do our best to limit the number of ads displayed on every page as much as possible. That doesn’t mean you won’t see any. These ads are what enable us to fighting the good fight and getting our content richness to you absolutely free. Believe us, no one is getting rich off of these ads. We’re just trying to meet the cost of doing business. So please forgive us our little collection of ads. Also, be aware that we don’t directly control most of the ads that appear on the site. But, if you see any anything amiss with them, do let us know. For more on the type of ads we run, please see our Privacy Policy.
