Things are looking good for Don’t Breathe as it enters its second week at the top of the box office class. Through the holiday weekend, it held onto quite a bit of its income, as an estimated $19.6 million added up to a $55 million domestic total – well above its $9.9 million costs. And though it had much more ground to make up, Suicide Squad remained critic-proof and a success, staying in second place with an estimated $12.8 million and over $300.2 million in domestic income, and $675.7 million worldwide. In third and fourth place, the critically successful Pete’s Dragon (estimated $8.6 million) and Kubo and the Two Strings (estimated $8.5
Though not for kids, Sausage Party is currently the highest grossing animated film of the current top ten (third overall), as an estimated $6.5 million gave the $19 million production a domestic total of $89.6 million. War Dogs, in the meantime, is one of only two films on the list unwilling to release its budget costs, but at an estimated $6 million holiday weekend and $36.5 million in domestic total, it would be difficult to call it a success. Though it is certainly a success compared to Mechanic: Resurrection (estimated $5.6 million), which has made $15.7 million domestically and languishes in tenth place on the list.
Bad Moms landed just below War Dogs, also with an estimated $6 million, but has managed to break $100 million in revenue and continues to be a strong winner at the box office. An opening estimated of $5.9 million, on the other hand, represents a slow start for The Light Between Oceans, the romantic drama costing $20 million and receiving lukewarm critical praise. But wider release has been kinder to Hell or High Water, the critically praised western starring Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges rose from twelfth to ninth place with an estimated $5.6 million, though it still needs a bit of income to break even on its $12 million costs.
