Those looking for an Endless Love-style travesty should take their dollars elsewhere; The Fault in our Stars has found itself on excellent footing in its debut weekend, bringing in an estimated $48.2 million, over four times its budget costs.
Perhaps a similar argument can be made as to how A Million Ways to Die in the West (estimated $7.2 million) is flopping so heavily next to Neighbors (estimated $5.2 million) in total gross. However, that also has to take into account the Seth MacFarlane western comedy is also much less acclaimed than Neighbors as well.
As a whole, the bottom of the list is a mixed bag: Blended (estimated $4.1 million) still has a chance of breaking even, and Chef (estimated $2.6 million), while no runaway hit with $10.4 million in the bank, is an unknown commodity with its unreleased budget, and Million Dollar Arm (estimated $1.8 million) will have to settle with being a minor success, making $31.3 million on a $25 million budget.
- The Fault in Our Stars…$48.2 million
- Maleficent…$33.5 million
- Edge of Tomorrow…$29.1 million
- X-Men: Days of Future Past…$14.7 million
