Sequels were the name of the game at the box office this weekend, as Think Like a Man Too (estimated $30 million) just narrowly beat out the smash success 22 Jump Street (estimated $29 million), while How to Train Your Dragon 2 (estimated $25.3 million) settled for third. While Think Like a Man Too is not sitting well with critics, it managed to win a profit in its opening weekend over a $24 million budget; 22 Jump Street crossed the $100 million threshold handily, but How to Train Your Dragon 2 has an uphill battle to get itself to its $145 million costs domestically (and even struggling to bring in very much worldwide).
The final four include four successes and one question mark: The Fault in Our Stars gained an estimated $8.6 million and is likely to cross the $100 million mark, X-Men: Days of Future Past (estimated $6.2 million) is not only a domestic success with its $200 million price tag but the third highest earning movie worldwide of 2014; Chef refuses to acknowledge its standing as it rakes in an estimated $1.8 million for a $16.9 million total over seven weeks; and Godzilla picked up an estimated $1.8 million as the big green lizard helped the 2014 movie become (barring inflation adjustment) the highest earning Godzilla film to date.
