Super 8 and Mr. Popper’s Penguins stayed afloat for the 4th and 5th spots, Super 8’s $12.1 million adding to the film’s modest success, while Popper’s second week is marred by its trying to make ends meet. Still, with its mixed reviews, the film is still doing fairly well with $10.3 million. X-Men: First Class ($6.6 million) held its own over the smash success The Hangover Part II ($5.9 million). Though Bridesmaids ($5.4 million) had the second lowest drop in revenue this weekend, at seven weeks on the board it has proven itself quite the surprise hit given its relatively low budget and nearly $150 million gross.
And nearing the bottom, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides makes it for week six, just holding on against Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Unlike Green Lantern, Pirates survived its scathing reviews quite admirably, and while it didn’t quite make back its budget domestically even with $4.7 million this weekend, it has still made a phenomenal $985.1 million worldwide…not quite as much as the second Pirates film, but far more than the first and third films. And while not a worldwide sensation, Paris dropped the least percentage in revenue to $4.5 million, and looks to be a decent entry for Allen, and doing far better than his last film, You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger, which made most of its $34 million overseas.
