Snow White and the Huntsman fell to fourth with an estimated $13.8 million, but has performed well here and overseas in its three weeks, the $170 million budgeted film taking in $247.2 million worldwide. The fantasy film certainly has succeeded leaps and bounds over the Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy That’s My Boy, which debuted this weekend with an estimated $13 million. Like fellow debut Rock of Ages, it too has sparked off numerous poor reviews and has little to speak of in foreign revenue to make up its $70 million budget anytime soon.
Two big heavy hitters slide in at the middle of the list, as Men in Black III took in an estimated $10 million and The Avengers an estimated $8.8 million, both films easily making enough money worldwide to make another franchise entry inevitable (Men in Black III $544.3 million, The Avengers $1.4 billion). Even after seven weeks, The Avengers stayed well ahead of home and abroad moneymaker The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which made an estimated $2.2 million and over $117.3 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. That veteran of the list kept its head over the fourth week of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which landed just shy of an estimated $2.2 million and is climbing in earnings and theatrical releases, gaining an additional 82 theaters and a second week as a Top 10 earner. In tenth, What to Expect When You’re Expecting probably expected a better performance, weakly trailing over the finish line with an estimated $1.3 million in week five and $48.7 million in worldwide earnings, a slight profit over its $40 million budget.
