Kung Fu Panda 2 dropped to fourth, picking up $16.6 million. Though not quite the draw compared to Hangover II, it has managed to stay in fairly good shape thanks to decent performance overseas, while Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is no stranger to high earnings; its $10.8 million this weekend only adds to its worldwide gross of $886 million, making it so far the top-earning film worldwide this year. And on the domestic front, Bridesmaids continues to pull in some decent cash with $10.1 million, making the comedy an even bigger surprise hit with $123.9 million in five weeks.
Not wowing most critics is the newcomer Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer. Its miniscule budget will probably help it a bit, as the $6.3 million it made this weekend still doesn’t bode well for the $20 million production. Compare that to Midnight in Paris (remarkably staying in eighth place), which got a major bump in revenue; it made $6.1 million and, counting its worldwide market, has already turned a profit and looks to be grabbing quite a bit more. The mighty Thor seems to be seeing his last days, however, with six weeks on the board, an impressive $173 million in domestic earnings alone, and $2.4 million for the weekend. It may also be goodbye time to Fast Five, which not only had a brilliant opening weekend, but with $1.7 million this weekend, has gone on to be a mega-earner both at home and overseas, with over $583 million in total gross.
