Star Wars: The Force Awakens has only been in theaters for ten days, but not only is it still far and away the box office champ with a whopping $152.5 million estimated total for the weekend, but is also the fastest film to $500 million in revenue, best second weekend total on record, best opening of all-time, and is on track to potentially being the highest earning movie of all-time as well (among a bevy of other box office records). Not likely to be winning a lot of records is Daddy’s Home, the critically slammed comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Coming in second with an estimated $38.8 million, it did not fare too badly against the Disney/Lucasfilm juggernaut, but with no reported budget it is unclear how well or poorly it did. Joy, on the other hand, 
definitely underperformed; with an estimated $17.5 million in box office for the weekend, its $60 million production budget makes the Jennifer Lawrence-starring drama look like a flop in the making.
Sisters may have fallen a place to fourth, but actually settled in for almost equal standing at the box office from the previous week, scoring an estimated $13.9 million, though it still has a ways to ago to make good on its $30 million budget. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, in the meantime, earned an estimated $12.7 million on an unreported budget, but based on the $75 million costs of the last two movies, the $37.1 million it has earned in total domestic gross is looking bad for the franchise as a whole.
Concussion made a mostly positive critical start, but a rough opening weekend, bringing in an estimated $11 million on a $35 million budget. While that nonfiction story is brought to the big screen, another film made a surprising grab for the top ten in The Big Short. Though in its third week of release, it opened to wide release with an estimated $10.5 million, and while its domestic total has a ways to go before covering its $28 million costs, the Adam McKay-directed comedy/drama about the 2008 housing bubble has gotten rave reviews; whether it has staying power is another thing entirely.
The final three spots, Point Break opened to massive disappointment. Unable to make much on its nostalgia trip, the remake of the 1980s cult classic debuted in eighth to an estimated $10.2 million. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will likely finish its top ten run soon, with an estimated $5.3 million adding to a somewhat disappointing domestic total, but a worldwide win with an estimated $616.8 million for the final entry in the franchise. Creed, too, will likely be seeing an end to its top ten run as well, but like its characters, it went out fighting, bringing an estimated $4.6 million to a decent $96.3 million domestic gross.

Get your facts straight…JOY did not underperform (and it certainly did not flop) as it was predicted to bring in anywhere between 14 and 18 million which Variety reported as “impressive” .
JOY brought in 17.5 million which was right in line with predictions. Perhaps you should read Forbes, Variety, Deadline, etc., for a proper rundown of box-office stats.

Joy underperformed? I don’t know why people like you want this movie to fail. Maybe they can’t stand David O. Russell. The Movie opened above predictions at 17.5 mill and just below the 19 mill of American Hustle (and that film had more stars and made 150 mill domestic)…Jennifer Lawrence proved she is one of the only if not the only movie stars who can open a movie. In other words, THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH JENNIFER LAWRENCE (Darth Vader voice).
