Box-Office Weekend: Beasts Best Sonic
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was sent packing to second-place over the box-office weekend by Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore which bested last week’s number one film by $13 million.
In its first week of release, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore brought in $43 million and debuted in the top spot over the weekend. Meanwhile, last week’s top film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, was pushed to second place and managed to bring in $30 million. This gives the film a two-week total of $119.6 million. Holding steady in the third spot of the top ten was The Lost City which added $6.5 million over the weekend to raise its three-week tally to $78.6 million. Leapfrogging two spots to finish in fourth place this weekend was Everything Everywhere All at Once which brought in $6.2 million over the weekend, raising its four-week total to $17.7 million in the process. Debuting in fifth place over the weekend was Father Stu starring Mark Wahlberg. The film took in $5.7 million in its first weekend of release amidst middling reviews.
Dropping all the way to sixth place this weekend was last week’s number two film, Morbius. The film managed $4.7 million for its third weekend in release and now sports a total of $65.1 million. Similarly dropping a few spots over the weekend was Ambulance which fell from fourth to seventh with $4 million to show for its troubles. The film now claims a four-week total of $15.6 million. Meanwhile, The Batman dropped three spots to finish in eighth place with $3.8 million over the weekend. This gives the film a seven-week total of $365 million, as it moves to #51 on the list of top domestic grosses of all time. Debuting in the top ten at number nine was K.G.F.: Chapter 2 which pulled in $2.9 million in its first weekend of release. Finally, last week’s seventh-place finisher, Uncharted fell to the tenth spot, adding $1.2 million over the weekend. This gives the film a nine-week total of $145 million.
Over the last three days, three films were ousted from the box-office weekend top ten. Spider-Man: No Way Home departs after a lengthy stay in the top ten with a grand total of $804.2 million, landing it at number three in the list of top domestic grosses of all time. Meanwhile, last week’s ninth-place film, Selena was displaced from the top ten as was tenth-place finisher Sing 2 (which still boasts a total of $162.5 million).
