Box-Office Weekend: Thunderbolts Repeat

For the second consecutive week, Thunderbolts* held the top spot of the box-office weekend as it bested second-place repeater Sinners by $12 million.

“Thunderbolts*” posterIn its second weekend of release, Thunderbolts* took in $33.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, which was enough to claim first place for a second weekend. This brings the film’s two-week total to $128.5 million. Meanwhile, Warner Brothers saw Sinners repeat it second-place finish with $21.1 million taken in over the weekend, giving the film a four-week tally of $214.4 million. Also holding steady this weekend, A Minecraft Movie remained in third place where it added $8.1 million, raising its six-week total to $409.1 million for Warner Brothers. Amazon MGM Studios saw The Accountant 2 remain in fourth place where it added $6.1 million to lift its three-week total to $50.9 million for the studio. Debuting in fifth place was RLJ Entertainment’s Clown in a Cornfield with $3.7 million.

Lionsgate saw its release of Shadow Force crack the top ten as it debuted in sixth place with $2.01 million. This was just enough to hold off the debut of Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight which finished just behind that in seventh with $2.001million to show for its first weekend in release. All of these debuts forced the Screen Gems product Until Dawn from fifth- to eighth-place where it took in $2.0 million, raising its three-week total to $18.0 million. In its fifth week of release, the 20th Century Studios release The Amateur dropped three spots to land in ninth place where it took in $1.1 million for the studio, bringing it cumulative total to $39.1 million. Finally, Angel Studios saw The King of Kings drop three spots to claim tenth place this weekend with $680,656, giving the film a five-week total of $59.1 million.

Again, three films from last week failed to make this weekend’s top ten as the eighth- through tenth-place films from seven days ago all dropped from this week’s list. After eight weeks in release, the A24 product Warfare leaves the top ten with $25.2 million. Meanwhile, both HIT: The 3rd Case and Guru Nanak Jahaz missed this weekend’s list after closing out the list last week.
