Box-Office Weekend: KPop Takes Down Weapons
After two weeks in atop the box-office weekend top ten, Weapons succumbed to the new Netflix release KPop Demon Hunters by a margin of just $2.4 million.
The latest release from Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters debuted in first place over the weekend to claim the box-office weekend crown in its first weekend of release. The film brought in $18.0 million, which was enough to displace last week’s top film, Weapons and relegate it to second place this weekend. The Warner Bros. product took in $15.6 million to bring its three-week total to $115.9 million for the studio. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw the first of its two entries on this weekend’s list finish in third place with $9.2 million as Freakier Friday fell to third place as it brought its three-week total to $70.5 million for the studio. Meanwhile, the second film from that same studio stayed put in fourth place as The Fantastic Four: First Steps added $5.9 million to raise the film’s five-week total to $257.3 million. Similarly, Universal Pictures saw The Bad Guys 2 remain in fifth place where it added $5.1 million in its fourth week of release to brings its overall total to $66.2 million.
Falling three spots to land in sixth place this weekend was Universal Pictures International’s Nobody 2 where it made $3.7 million to bring its two-week total to $16.5 million for the studio. Dropping only one spot from last weekend, the Warner Bros. release Superman added $3.4 million over the weekend to land in seventh place. The film now sports a seven-week total of $347.1 million. Paramount Pictures International saw its The Naked Gun fall a spot to claim eighth place as it took in $3.0 million for the studio to give it a four-week total of $47.5 million. Meanwhile, Focus Features enjoyed the debut of its Honey Don’t! in ninth place with $2.9 million earned over the weekend. Finally, in its eighth week of release, the Universal Pictures product Jurassic World: Rebirth brought in $2.1 million for the studio, raising its overall total to $335.6 million.
Two films were again forced from the box-office weekend top ten this week as the ninth- and tenth-place films from seven days ago dropped from this weekend’s list. After nine weeks in release that resulted in a total of $185.9 million, the Warner Bros. release F1: The Movie couldn’t maintain its position in this weekend’s top teen race. Finally, after a week in release, the Prathyangira Cinemas product, Coolie, managed to bring in $2.5 million for the studio.
