A new film took over the top spot of the box-office weekend top ten as the re-release of Avengers: Endgame brought in $2.7 million more than its closest rival – last weekend’s top film Resident Evil.
The re-release of Avengers: Endgame made $26.0 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures over the weekend and this proved enough to lay claim to the top spot of the box-office weekend. This debut pushed last week’s top film, Columbia Pictures’ Resident Evil to second place where it brought in $23.3 million, giving it a two-week total of $103.5 million. Meanwhile, Heart of the Beast debuted in third place with $20.0 million taken in for Paramount Pictures. Fourth place found itself occupied by the $19.2 million debut of A24’s Primetime and fifth place was claimed by the $12.8 million debut of Forgotten Island from DreamWorks.
The four debuts in the top five this weekend forced last weekend’s second-place film, Practical Magic 2 to sixth place where it made $5.7 million for Warner Bros., giving the film a three-week total of $59.8 million. Sony Pictures Releasing saw its Spider-Man: Brand New Day plummet from third to seventh where it added $4.1 million over the weekend, giving the film a nine-week total of $950.7 million. Also dropping four spots, The Odyssey finished in eighth place with $3.7 million for Universal Pictures, bringing the film’s eleven-week total to $616.5 million. Ketchup Entertainment saw its Coyote vs. ACME land in ninth place with $1.9 million following a fifth-place finish seven days ago, as the film brought its five-week total to $58.4 million. Following a seventh-place finish last weekend, Daniel and the Fiery Furnace dropped to tenth place where it made $1.5 million for EKKL Entertainment, giving the film a two-week total of $6.2 million.
As is becoming the norm, four films from last weekend’s top ten fell from this weekend’s list. Following a sixth-place finish seven days ago, Runner departed the top ten with a three-week total of $13.8 million. After claiming eighth place a week ago, the fortieth anniversary re-release of The Transformers: The Movie managed to bring in a total of $4.2 million. Meanwhile, The Weight departs the top ten following a ninth-place finish last week that yielded $2.3 million for the film. Finally, Roadside Attractions saw Buddy earn a total of $26.4 million over the last five weeks.
