ABOUT THE FILM

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet – or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote. (Warner Bros.) This film is rated TBD

  1. Definitely Jack Sparrow from the Pirates movies.  He is so entertaining in those and you never know which way he’s going to take something.  All you know is that it’s going to be funny.

  2. I love Johnny Depp in his odd-ball characters…Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka….it just seems a natural fit for him.  I expect his Barnabas Collins to be just as great.

  5. I’ve loved Johnny Depp in every performance he’s ever given since 21 Jump Street.  Choosing only one is like torture but if I absolutely HAD to choose — like if my life depended on it — I would have to say Jack Sparrow.  I know this is such a cliche choice but I appreciate this role because it’s the one that made the rest of the world realize what I already knew about him and his amazing talent.

Hmmm…what Tim Burton or Johnny Depp movie do I NOT like?  Depp is my favorite actor and when he partners with Tim Burton, it is purely magical.  I canNOT wait for this film to come out…I’m confident it will deliver all it promises.  (My fave character of Depp’s, though, is Captain Jack Sparrow).  🙂

  18. Getting off topic a bit regarding Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, I must say that I remember my mom watching Dark Shadows when I was young. So I would love to take my mom to see this movie. I do love the work of Tim Burton as well as Johnny Depp, I think that they are both talented and imaginative. As far as Tim Burton goes one of my favorite movies is Big Fish. It really has a lot of meaning to me. James and the Giant Peach was a favorite of my eldest son’s movie and he watched it so many times it wore out the vhs tape. Of course the Nightmare Before Christmas is great as well. Okay I can’t pick my favorite!!! Good Luck to all who enter!

  23. Johnny Depp is beyond amazing. That doesn’t even begin to describe his acting ability. He makes it looks so easy, and stays out of drama. Every movie from cry baby to charlie and the chocolate factory. He really knows how to play any role, he is so verstile. He is a classic, forever to be remembered.

  24. Always loved Dark Shadows, i use to watch it when i was little.   My
sister never was able to see the series, so starting late last year i
started showing her the series.. we’ve been marathoning it.. watching
several episodes everyday – we are now up to episode 479, just watched
Barnabas’s past and how he ended up with jealous obsessed revenging
witch of a wife, and how he got his curse. Angelique has just entered
present day of 1968 in the series for us..  so timing of this movie
coming out is great. We both really want to see it. I know my mom really
wants to see it too, so i will forward your contest to her as well.

As for a favorite of Tim Burton’s and Johnny Depp’s movie.. that is
difficult, I love to many of their dark twisted films..  Nightmare
Before Christmas is definitely one of them, i love stop motion and hope
to be doing that.. Plus it holds a special place in my heart, to much in common with it.. espcially at the time it came out. Edward Scissorhand,  –  I don’t have scissors for
hands, but I definitely was the outcast while growing up who could
sculpt about anything.Sometimes people are really hard on those they don’t understand. Only Edward was lucky, he had Vincent Price as a
dad and one heck of a neat place to sculpt shrubbery..  so it’s between those two movies.. though i love many others, and we have traveled out to Tim Burton’s exhibit in NYC and LA, and we’ve had talks about going to it while it’s in Paris now.  So hopefully we can make it to a advance screening of Dark Shadows! 😀

  25. I would love to see the movie, Dark Shadows.    Been updating alot on the old series lately. Johnny Depp makes a fantastic Barnabas. Everytime I see that ad, I have to stop and watch.
I love the movies that Tim Burton does, see them all. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors. Like Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean, & Sweeney Todd, the expression that Johnny does is fantastic, always caught my attention.
But one holds a special spot in my heart is the Night Mare before Christmas.  At the time when this movie came out,  I had just crashed myself, from a dream that my family was trying to do.  So it hit close to home.  Some of those songs really meant something to me.  The only thing that was really different at the end, Jack was already someone and I wasn’t.  And I already was married, so I didn’t have the Jack and Sally part either.    It was the part when Jack was trying to do another Holiday instead of his own, and failed.  That is the part my family connected with.
We did good with what we were doing, people liked us.  It was someone that didn’t know us,  that crashed us.  So that is why I loved that movie so much.  It just hit so much at home, at that time.  I thanked them inside, so much in making that movie.   It helped us go through that bad time,  in our life.  And they don’t even know it.  What timing.

  41. B&D are pretty much like P & J at this point. Although  good separate, when combined  they are at truly at their best.  Therefore, it is difficult to pick a champion since each of their collaborations  is a  masterpiece and their work has given rise to a whole new genre of film, the cleverly twisted 3d eerie fairytale. However, of the seven collaborations, I believe Sleepy Hollow,Willy Wonky and Edward Scissorhands best display the true depth of their genius and ability to create scenes that will forever live in a film lovers mind.
