A Kid Film Critic Reviews Inside Out
Inside Out is a great movie. I love the way it describes the workings of the brain in a way they think a kid would describe it. The movie starts off with a backstory on part of the life of Riley. Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) is used to living in Minnesota, but when her parents decide to move the family to San Francisco, her emotions are conflicted.
Five characters represent Riley’s emotions: Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear. They all have different plans, Anger (voiced by Lewis Black) wants to get mad at everything, Fear (voiced by Bill Hader) wants to be cautious – but Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) is the main emotion and keeps them all in check. The problem is that Joy does not understand why the character Sadness (voiced by Phyllis 
Smith) is there or the point of sadness. This misunderstanding gets Riley in a lot of trouble. At the end of the movie, Sadness is the hero and, while Riley still has emotions, she now can keep them in control.
The humor in this movie is great. The best parts are when you get an insight into the parents’ minds and emotions. The characters representing the emotions inside the stereotypical Mom and Dad were very funny.
The 3D was horrible and not used to its fullest potential. Through the whole movie you could barely tell it’s in 3D. The movie did have a little more depth, but none of the scenes popped. Save your money and just watch it in 2D. There is no reason to see it in 3D.
Inside Out is a good story, but what makes it a great story is the humor and the life lessons it teaches. One of these life lessons is that you need sadness to feel joy. Because without it you wouldn’t know what joy feels like. It’s also okay to feel sad sometimes. It helps us to appreciate feeling joyful.
Another life lesson is that everyone has a purpose. Joy didn’t think Sadness was useful. She convinced the rest of the emotions that Sadness really didn’t matter. Throughout the movie Joy is sure that she is the answer to Riley’s problems, not Sadness. At the end of the movie Joy realizes that Sadness is important too.
Although Inside Out had some flaws – like making fun of my favorite city, San Francisco, and not even doing it well – this is a movie worth watching. I really recommend this movie! When you see this movie you must stay for credits. Because, in between the credits there are cute little extras that are super funny. All ages will enjoy it.
