A Kid Film Critic Reviews The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
What We Liked
What We Didn't Like
This movie sucked. It had barely any good parts. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water starts off with this evil pirate (Antonio Banderas) trying to get a special book. He grabs the book and reads it to pigeons. The book is about Bikini Bottom and as the pirate reads the story the camera pans down to Bikini Bottom where SpongeBob and Patrick are trying to destroy Plankton for the hundredth time. When this fails and Plankton gets his hand on the secret formula SpongeBob has to get the secret formula back, but in the process it just disappears.
This causes the entire community of Bikini Bottom to freak out. Everyone has gone mad. So, Plankton and SpongeBob go on a mission to find the secret formula. This mission goes on for most of the movie. Then they convince their friends to help. Their journey to find the secret formula now leads them to the world above water. They become super heroes and have to defeat the evil pirate who now has the secret formula. In the end everything goes back to the way it always was.
My opinion is that this movie has a lot of problems they need to fix. The first thing is the movie is way too long for the target audience which is very young kids. At the theater a lot of the kids started to fidget quite a bit towards the end of the movie. The next problem is how at the end of the movie everything went back to the way it was. None of the characters learned anything. Which I think is not a good ending at all. The third thing is the 3D, it was terrible. There was only one part of the movie that you could tell it was in 3D. The last problem with this movie is that when they were trying to be funny it just flat out wasn’t. No one in the theater was laughing.
Even though most of the movie sucked there were a couple things that were good. The characters taught you to work as a team and that by doing so you will accomplish more than you thought. The next thing is the music. Although to me the songs were annoying and repetitive the kids in the theater seemed to love the songs. But, in my younger childhood I liked SpongeBob songs too. The last thing is the animation. It looked great. But it looked a little weird when SpongeBob and his friends are out of the water and the movie mixed real shots with animation.
I think you should just skip The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. But if you are going to watch it, save your money and don’t watch it in 3D. The only part I liked was when a little girl came in the theater and she was scared of the man in the SpongeBob suit that was there. I felt really sad that she was scared and that she had to go past him to get to her seat. She looked terrified, but cute, and this reminded me so much of a younger me when I used to be scared of people dressed as characters from animated shows too.
