An Eleven-Year-Old Film Critic Reviews Despicable Me 2
What We Liked
What We Didn't Like
I really like this movie! It was awesome, cool, hilarious, and sad. In Despicable Me 2, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) finds a new nemesis and battles him in the movie. Sadly Gru’s minions are pulled into the situation and Gru needs to rescue them. To start the movie off, a secret laboratory is stolen by a giant magnet controlled by Gru’s nemesis. At the same time Gru is celebrating Agnes’s (voiced by Elsie Kate Fisher), his youngest daughter, birthday. This movie includes a lot of romance and even a broken heart. In the film, Gru gets a partner named Lucy (voiced by Kristen Wiig). But, Gru does not like Lucy at first. Eventually Lucy grows on Gru and Gru grows on Lucy.
As a sequel, Despicable Me 2 is wonderful. It starts off exactly how it should begin, showing how Gru has changed over time. Gru is awesome and nice but, he still has some evil in him. He is one of my favorite characters because he is trying to be nice but misses the adventures of being evil from his old life.
Lucy is kind of creepy but knows what she is doing and turns out to be a big help to Gru. She is also one of my favorite characters because she has cool weapons and is very interesting. Lucy thinks of many ways to be careful and safe. On the other hand, Gru is a fast thinker and a man of action. They work well together.
I enjoyed the animation and I thought the 3D was excellent. The 3D made the action feel all around me. The movie made me laugh out loud. One hilarious part is when Gru’s dog is dressed up like a dragon at Agnes’s birthday party. The kids at the party take turns fighting the “dragon.” It looks really funny, but you kind of have to be there. Another part of the movie is very sad – two of the characters are in danger of dying. I really enjoy the characters and I don’t like to see them get hurt.

The movie is good from start to end. I hope they make a third movie. Go see Despicable Me 2 and let me know if you agree. By the way, stay for the credits because they rock and are really funny.
