The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, "Thor: Love and Thunder" debuted atop the box-office weekend, beating the second-place film by nearly $100 million.

While it proves wildly entertaining and engaging for most of its running time, "Thor: Love and Thunder" ends up a bit too light on the story side of the ledger.

"Top Gun: Maverick" stood no chance against the debut of "Minions: The Rise of Gru" as the sequel beat it by $92.2 million to win the box-office weekend.
