Box-Office Weekend: Bad Boys are Kings

Yet again, a new title has claimed the top spot of the box-office weekend as Bad Boys: Ride or Die debuted a whopping $46 million ahead of its nearest competition.

"Bad Boys: Ride or Die" posterIn its first weekend of release, Bad Boys: Ride or Die brought in $56.0 million for Sony Pictures Releasing, easily capturing the number one spot of the box-office weekend top ten. This was enough to relegate last weekend’s top film, The Garfield Movie, to a distant second place where it made $10.0 million for Sony Pictures Releasing, lifting its two-week total to $68.6 million. Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures saw IF drop to third place where it took in $8.0 million over the weekend, giving the film a four-week total of $93.5 million. The second debut of the weekend, Warner Bros.’ The Watchers, landed in fourth place where it grossed $7.0 million for the studio. Falling a spot to finish in fifth this weekend was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with $5.4 million. This gives the 20th Century Studios product a five-week total of $149.8 million.

After finishing in third place last weekend, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga dropped three spots to land in sixth-place this weekend where it took in $4.2 million for Warner Bros. in its third weekend of release, giving it a cumulative total of $58.7 million. Falling two spots to claim seventh place this weekend was The Fall Guy with $2.6 million. This gives the Universal Pictures offering a six-week total of $85.1 million. Losing two spots and finishing in eighth this weekend was the Lionsgate Films product The Strangers: Chapter 1 with $1.8 million, lifting the film’s four-week total to $32.2 million. Also falling two places to finish in ninth place this weekend was Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle which brought in $810,448 for Crunchyroll, giving the film a two-week tally of $5.8 million. Finally, after two weeks in release, In a Violent Nature sports an overall total of $3.6 million for IFC Films, despite dropping two spots this weekend and bringing in only $640,000.

Last weekend’s ninth- and tenth-place films were both forced from this weekend’s top ten. After bringing in $2.2 million over the last two weeks for Bleecker Street Media, Ezra couldn’t crack the top ten again this weekend. Meanwhile, after three weeks in release,
Sight departs the weekend box-office top ten leaving Angels Studios $6.8 million richer.
